For the past three weeks, I’ve been participating in the FridayFlash group over on Twitter. The whole concept is run by J.M. Strother and is a great way to get readers for your work. I’ve noticed a large spike in traffic to all of my websites which, of course, means more readers. In order to better manage my traffic and keep my FridayFlash fiction separate from the rest of my writing, I set up a blog at Posterous (highly recommended, if you need a quick blogging platform that’s easy to set up).

The Doctor is in: Curing Writer’s Block

No matter what I’m writing, I struggle with writer’s block from time to time. Writer’s block is not confined to fiction or nonfiction; it is a disease that afflicts writers no matter the subject. Everyone experiences it occasionally. Gene Fowler once said, “Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead.”

Struggling with writer’s block can feel like you’re staring at a sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead, as Gene put it, or you can take your medicine. Many writers have written books to help with writer’s block, five of which I have used and want to share.

A Quick Sketch For Fun

Pinto the Bean - Elijah I. Toten
In the never ending battle between beans and rice, a warrior emerges from a ruined civilization. Once great, the Beans were known for their powerful stature and command of various martial arts. But the numbers were against them. The Rice legions were nearly unstoppable. Until now. A new hero has arrived, having survived the genocide of his brothers, lost in the rim of the white Basin, what the large ones called the sink. He fought his way back to the counter tops, where war would be waged once more.

His name is Pinto. Pinto, the bean.
