Two new short stories

April 5th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

It’s been a while since I posted something to this blog of mine. In the time since my previous post, I haven’t had very much time to write or work. Slowly, I’m immersing myself back into a schedule of healthy freelancing and writing on my own projects. I want to take a moment to share with you my two newest stories. They are flash fiction written for the Twitter #FridayFlash group.

Cubicles and Brimstone

“My greatest weakness? Uh, I’ve been known to be quite stubborn, to the point of clashing with upper management.”

“Oh?” Mr. Moulton asked. He slipped a pair of reading glasses from his jacket pocket and leaned the spectacles carefully against his nose, so he could look over the simple one-page resume.

Spasms

The ring finger on Isaac’s left hand twitched for the third time in a day which concerned him greatly. He stared down at his hand and watched the finger for a short period. No spasm ran through his hand while he was watching, but he was sure that the tiny hairs right above his second knuckle were brimming with excitement. He  squeezed his eyes shut, wrote the movements off as his imagination, and returned to his work.

Over the coming weeks, I plan to retool this blog and bring the primary focus to my fiction.

Five Sites to Keep You Writing

October 15th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

It’s often hard to find time to devote to your personal writing, especially after a long day at work or when inspiration runs a bit thin. Everyday life is sometimes a writer’s worst nightmare when trying to find time to work on that novel, blog post or short story. To help fill the time in between larger chunks of writing, many have turned to shorter fiction, sometimes to the extreme, in order to stay inspired and creative. I wanted to give you five sites that will keep you writing, even if extra time is not your strong suit. Each site on this list is a bit different, but they all focus on one thing: Short fiction that will keep you writing.

An Inspiring Power Outage

I’m going to go ahead and admit that I love my computer. I use it for everything. Email, graphic design, television shows and writing. Everything that I do, I depend on my desktop or one of the several laptops I have at my disposal.

Twitter Sized Writing Advice

Twitter is a great place to connect and interact with a fantastic community of writers. You have the #fridayflash crowd, the #tuesdayserial Tweeps and the #amwriting hashtag to name a few. All of these talented writers produce great work, maintain interesting blogs and actively engage in writing communities across the web. With so many writers on Twitter, there’s a wealth of information, news and encouragement, all in bite-sized nuggets of 140 characters or less. I recently asked Twitter writers to share their Twitter sized writing advice with me, and now I’m going to pass it on to you.

Lots of Spam – Comment Spam Story Project

September 2nd, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

A few weeks ago, I started saving all of my blog’s comment spam and putting all of the spam comments together. Rather than just deleting everything as I usually do, I’ve been reading each and every message and surprisingly, I’ve been amused.

The Comment Spam Story Project

August 6th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

Every blogger I know talks about the disease known as comment spam. I am going to use comment spam for this project.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve noticed the amount of comment spam on my blog go up. Luckily, Akismet catches almost 100 percent of the comment spam, and what’s missed is caught by me since I hold every comment for moderation before it is posted to the site. Some of the comment spam is cleverly disguised as legitimate comments and some of it is not. I usually get the spam that looks legitimate, the stuff that sells something or random strings of words that make no sense. Surprisingly, very little of the comment spam on this blog is the kind selling “natural enhancements” to gullible men with self-esteem problems.

10 More Images to Inspire Creativity

August 2nd, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

Okay, it’s time for more images to inspire creativity. I recently listed 10 images that inspired me to write, and thought it would be good to list ten more. Images and photographs are a great way to stay inspired anytime, because the images give you a way to be somewhere else. No matter where you are, a great photograph or picture can take you somewhere else. Sometimes that small distraction is all you need to recollect yourself and fire up your creativity.

Previously, I shared a list of five books to help combat writer’s block. Today I want to share five more books for writers trying to hone their craft or strengthen their story structure. These books are invaluable references for writers, and truly assist with all aspects of story creation without feeling like homework. I chose these five books because they are fun and engaging in addition to being great sources of information.
