Two Awards and Broken Rules

August 4th, 2010 § 2 comments

Over the past several weeks, I have participated in Twitter’s #fridayflash group started by J.M. Strother. Through the stories I write for that, I’ve “met” a number of talented writers. One of those talented writers, Aidan Fritz, recently passed two blog awards to me. Aidan says in the award post that he does not follow rules very well, which is great, because neither do I. So, in my own way, I am accepting the two awards he gave me, and passing them on – while intentionally breaking and bending the rules.

One Lovely Blog AwardThe Versatile Blogger

So the rules of these awards (as far as I understand):

  • Accept the award, post it on your blog with the name of the person who has granted the award, and share his or her blog link.
  • Pass the award on to 15 other blogs that you’ve newly discovered.
  • Contact the bloggers to let them know you’ve chosen to pass on the awards to them.

Somewhere in there, you’re supposed to list seven things about yourself. Aidan stole from another award and decided to include six facts and one untruth. I’m going to run with that in giving you my facts, but I’ll include eight items and won’t tell you how many are true. They may all be lies, since I’m not that interesting of a person. (That’s why I make stories up, you know.)

  • I write and do graphic design both personally and professionally. I sold my first short story when I was thirteen years old.
  • I worked as a loan processor for a personal loan company based in Conshohocken, PA for three years. I was laid off because the company’s owner believed financial laws would change as soon as the ’08 presidential election was over.
  • I write Dystopian fiction inspired by real life headlines. I once wrote a science fiction story that came true two years later.
  • I have tattoos, but they are all based on what I consider literary masterpieces.
  • I once went four years without shaving or cutting my hair, because I refuse to do so while I am trying to complete a work-in-progress.
  • I have a refrigerator that is powered by my computer’s USB port. I use it to keep my beverages chilled while working.
  • I have never participated in NaNoWriMo, because I am always writing a novel.
  • I participated in the 3 Day Novel competition last year, but an illness prevented me from writing more than five pages.

Okay, if you’re not asleep yet, here are the people I’m passing the awards to. I’ve chosen eight people to pass it on to, instead of fifteen. I told you, I don’t follow rules very well.

Alison Wells: Head above Water

India Drummond: IndiaDrummond.com

Matt Merritt: One Block

Eric J. Krause: Eric J. Krause’s Writing Spot

Jordan Drew: The Random Rantings of Jordan Drew

Travis King: APOPHENIA

Michelle Frank: Wicked Moxie

Mike Robertson: Missouri River Writer

If you choose to accept the awards (you won’t hurt my feelings if you don’t), feel free to twist the rules or entirely break them. We’re writers, that’s what we do.

Let me thank Aidan Fritz for passing the awards to me, and also congratulate him on the painstaking, but brilliant way he chose to accept the awards when they were given to him. Aiden chose to write a series of flash fiction “responses” on his blog, and that grabbed my attention long before he passed the awards on. Be sure to check out his blog, and to check out the blogs of the people I passed the awards to.

Thanks for the kind words. I never imagined there was a 3-day novel challenge. I recognize some of the linked names, but some are new so I’ll look forward to meeting some new faces.
