Snatch and the Missing Mother

Snatch turned the sledgehammer around in his grip and glanced at the dark brown weighted head. On the end of the sledgehammer’s head, a stain turned the brown metal a sick mixture of purple, crimson and rust-red. Snatch licked his teeth behind his pursed lips and chewed the inside of his mouth.

“Rat,” Snatch said. “I killed a rat.”

Laura exhaled. “Maybe you should try to kill that snake I saw?” She forced a laugh in an attempt to ease out of the tense situation.

Snatch and the Quiet Quest

August 18th, 2010 § 4 comments § permalink

This is entry 18 of 30 in the series A Man Called Edgar Snatch

The ground lurched beneath Snatch and he stumbled forward several steps before the ground punched him in his jaw. He recoiled from the pain and reached up to his chin.

A line of blood trickled from his chin.

It took a couple of seconds for Snatch to piece together what happened. When the ground moved under him, like someone snatching a rug from under his feet, he fell. The ground hit him, or he hit it.

Edgar Snatch Visual Update

August 17th, 2010 § 2 comments § permalink

You will notice a distinctly new visual style for the Edgar Snatch header art when the new Edgar Snatch story is released tomorrow. I felt now was the best time to update the visual style for the serial, as Edgar Snatch is currently changing, evolving, and discovering more about himself. He’s learning limitations, his strengths and weaknesses, and falling deeper in the thrall of his own delusions.

Check out the newest Edgar Snatch inspired work to see a glimpse of the new visual style before tomorrow’s story is released.

The Vigilant Blogger Award

August 15th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

It’s award season here at Totenfolio and Telling Creative Lies, obviously. A little over a week ago, I was awarded two lovely awards – the One Lovely Blog award, and the Versatile Blogger award – by Aidan Fritz. Then, I was given the Fabulous Flash Award over here, which I only learned about through a Google search result alert on my name (yeah, I know, I’m pretty vain and want to know where my name pops up online).

A few days later, I received the One Lovely Blog award and the Versatile Blogger award again, this time from Travis King. Travis King is a writer that I enjoy reading and hold a large deal of respect for because of his support of copyright reform through the release of most of his short stories under a creative commons license.

The Comment Spam Story – An Update

August 13th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

One week has passed since I announced my comment spam story project. I’m happy to say that the spam hasn’t slowed down since that announcement. I’ve gotten some great material to work with. I have close to 40 spam comments saved, some with some really weird content in them, and at this point I’m not quite sure how I’m going to string it all together into a coherent story.

I fully expect to have enough material to get started in one more week, and look forward to the new spam I’m going to get between now and then. It’s going to be a train wreck and a great practice in creativity at the same time.

Snatch and the Hiding Hammer

Snatch looked down at the mouse and narrowed his gray eyes. He scraped his tongue over his teeth and scratched the greasy stubble of the beard growing under his chin.

“Do you know where my hammer is?”

The dead mouse played dead.

Do you know where my damned hammer is?” Snatch growled. His voice rumbled in his neck and chest like a diesel engine sputtering along on fumes.

CreaWriter – A Review

August 11th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

CreaWriter is a full-screen word processor designed for writers to increase productivity and creativity, according to the software’s website. The interface of the software is a minimalist approach to user interfaces, only appearing when necessary. The software is based on Ommwriter for Mac, and is designed to put the focus on your words. Now, I was happy when I heard about CreaWriter, because as a writer using a PC, I’ve been envious of Ommwriter for quite some time. I can’t compare the two, because I’ve not used Ommwriter, but since users will stick to their operating systems based on personal preferences, I find CreaWriter a welcome entry into the world of full-screen distraction-free writing.

The Comment Spam Story Project

August 6th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

Every blogger I know talks about the disease known as comment spam. I am going to use comment spam for this project.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve noticed the amount of comment spam on my blog go up. Luckily, Akismet catches almost 100 percent of the comment spam, and what’s missed is caught by me since I hold every comment for moderation before it is posted to the site. Some of the comment spam is cleverly disguised as legitimate comments and some of it is not. I usually get the spam that looks legitimate, the stuff that sells something or random strings of words that make no sense. Surprisingly, very little of the comment spam on this blog is the kind selling “natural enhancements” to gullible men with self-esteem problems.
