Snatch rolled out of bed and put his bare feet on the floor. He scratched his chin and popped his eyes open to look out into his room. The floorboards from the center of the room still leaned precariously against the wall; he’d never nailed the boards back down. He ran his fingers through his greasy hair and looked down at the floor.
He did not remember coming to bed.
He turned to look out his bedroom window and placed his hand on top of a warm body. He jerked around to stare at a woman in his bed. Her back faced him.
“Danielle?” Snatch shook her.

Today I wanted to give you an excerpt from my published book, Overpopulation: The Choosing. The book is about one man’s struggle to escape the death sentence handed down by a government agency called The Choosing. The Choosing is a government agency commissioned to control overpopulation by killing off a predetermined list of citizens each year.
Enjoy this excerpt from Overpopulation: The Choosing.

A few years back, I started a story called The Muse Cycle. I plan on writing more about The Muse Cycle and the complex concept behind the plot of the story soon, but for now, I wanted to share an excerpt from the book. I never finished the book in its entirety, though I did finish a first draft. As such, this excerpt is from the unedited (save for slight typo proofing) first draft manuscript. The scene describes the two main characters, Evan and Rebecca, in a somewhat clumsily written car chase.

Previously, I shared a list of five books to help combat writer’s block. Today I want to share five more books for writers trying to hone their craft or strengthen their story structure. These books are invaluable references for writers, and truly assist with all aspects of story creation without feeling like homework. I chose these five books because they are fun and engaging in addition to being great sources of information.

A few years back I started a project tentatively titled The Serpent’s Soul. The story focused around a man led to believe he was Jesus Christ, the second coming. Satan, in the guise of a man named Darius Janis led him to believe this in order to force the prophecies of the end times to come true early. The project fizzled and sat on my hard drive for a long time before I recently discovered it again. Here, for your enjoyment, is a short excerpt from the unfinished manuscript. The scene is Darius Janis storming into a recently completed Catholic church, the largest in the world, in Pennsylvania, to confront the congregation about their sinfulness.

Some days, writing a single word feels like completing a full-length novel. Even with all the tools writers have to avoid writer’s block (though some people say writer’s block is a myth), inspiration is hard to come by on some days. On days like today, when I’m feeling less than inspired, I refill my tanks by looking at the work of other talented people. One of my favorite things to do when I need a creative kick in the rear is look at images from Flickr, all created by really talented people. I’ve compiled a list of ten great images that inspire me to write.

Every writer I know has a project they look back on and think, “Man, that’s terrible writing.” I love to look back at things I wrote years ago, because it helps me understand how I’ve grown as a writer. I wrote an e-book for a website called Keep It Coming several years ago, called “Gift: Unwanted Dreams.” At the time, I thought it was great writing. I gave my own horn a nice long toot and then I emailed everyone I knew to point them toward the e-book I wrote. Keep It Coming no longer exists, but the e-book is still here on my hard drive.

Once again, I am changing the Edgar Snatch update schedule. The story of Edgar Snatch will no longer be updated twice a week. Updates to the serial will be posted weekly, beginning Wednesday, the 28th. This new update schedule will give me more time to write ahead, develop the story and add characters. If you think the story of Edgar Snatch has been crazy so far, you haven’t seen anything yet.
In other news, I recently (re)discovered a couple things I wrote several years ago for a (now-defunct) venture called Keep It Coming. I’m reading through these rediscovered works and intend to release the content soon.
Until then, take this short break in the story of Edgar Snatch to catch up, if you haven’t been reading.

Snatch had to think hard about what the old farmer said. If the Reaper didn’t sit across from him right now, would he go outside and kill Laura?
He scratched his stubble-covered chin and shook his head. “You’re wrong, old man.”
The old farmer held a hand up. “Call me the Reaper. You should know that by now. We’re good friends, right?” The Reaper paused. “I give fantastic advice, if I must resort to patting myself on the back.”
